So I'm trying to give my friend dating advice...

    • He's been seeing this girl who's into drama, i suggest flowers, a dumpling house and a play...

      me;
      :D
    • good booy, sounds like a plan and go with the shakespear
    • when in doubt shakespeare
    • trust me on this

    my friend
    • maybe.
    • the problem is
    • i'm still second guessing myself
    • which probably means i'm mostly happy to have a date, and that we get on as friends and...

    me
    • swallow a cup of cement mix and harden the fuck up
    • shakespeare in the park = romantic
    • "songs for nobodies" is not the vibe you want on the night you make your move, you're trying to romance her, not depress her

    my friend
    • oh okay

    me
    • also tell her she looks pretty

    my friend
    • i'm... not in a great mood for forcefulness. and i'm not convinced.

    me
    • IT'S GOOD ADVICE, TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT

    my friend
    • not about the shakespeare thing-
    • or the good advice

    me
    • sorry
    • caps for someone else
    • do some self affirmations

    my friend
    • i'm going to give it a few days
    • and flip a coin.

    me
    • whatever

    my friend
    • well
    • it's not the coin itself
    • it's knowing what you actually want when it's in the air
    • that's all it takes, really. pressure, and time

    my friend
    • i think you're right about the concrete.
    • and you're right about everything :P
    • and indeed, she is pretty

    my friend
    • hey again

    me
    • hellooo

    my friend
    • you. are. solid.
and i love you for it

    me
    • here for you buddy

    my friend
    • i am pretty much always going to defer to you eventually
    • i should know better in advance :P

    me
    • :p

    my friend
    • (instead of trying to argue)

    me
    • its not that the other thing doesn't sound interesting but we're trying to create a mood and a setting, in which you can shine
    • like, greasing the wheels

    my friend
    • my mind wants to think of other things
    • like
    • iceskating
    • or a walk in the park
    • or a picnic
    • and i want to reject traditional romanticism, but it's still romanticism
    • which the other things are not

    me
    • romance is thoughtfulness, taking time to consider another person
    • i mean i said dumpling house as an example, but do you know what kind of food she likes?
    • roses are a safe bet but has she ever mentioned a faveroute colour or flower

    my friend
    • it is hard to be sure. but i think it's japanese or korean
and i'm pretty darn sure we went to her fav restaurant last time, which was japanese/korean fusion

    me
    • it may seem overwhelming but dont overthink it

    my friend
    • she has not, re flowers
    • or colours

    me
    • ok, then maybe a japanese resturant

    my friend
    • in fact i mentioned my fav colour and she said she rejected the notion-

    me
    • what cort of colors does she wear?

    my friend
    • mayhap. but finding the ones that are totally veg friendly are a little harder. which actually leads me in a slightly diff. direction...

    me
    • the idea is to flatter and woo her without her realising it

    my friend
    • she wears.. i think her favourite dress is red and blue stripey
bit it's also a nice shape, so it may not be about colour.

    me
    • its always a bit about colour

    my friend
    • mmm

    me
    • single red rose, with two blue flowers next to it

    my friend
    • i'm not good at that :P
i tend to wear my colours out....

    my friend
    • i know roses are traditional... but i don't know if that's such a good plan.

    me
    • do you believe in evolution?

    my friend
    • yes, der.
    • traditional is... perhaps not a thing either she or i would admit to.

    me
    • so forget about the notion of roses and traditional romance for a moment

    my friend
    • this is why i'm trying to find my own idea of romance
    • i think i've got a bit over a week here, thanks to xmas :P
    • (before shit gets immediate)

    me
    • your goal is to stimulate positive chemical responses in her to pave the way for intercourse and genetic reproduction
    • shut up and listen

    my friend
    • sorry

    me
    • you are a monkey stop trying to confuse yourself
    • stop typing
    • shiny things/bright colours = positive visual stimuli
    • pleasant smells
    • tasty food
    • pretty sounds
    • all good things

    me
    • girl monkey in good mood
    • smiles
    • nice talk
    • girl monkey feels high in staus
    • gifts = boy monkey has status, can provide protection and food for girl and off spring
    • gentle words = no violence
    • flowers = bright colour and nice smell two birds, one stone thats why traditional
    • this is very easy
    • you are relaxed = other monkeys around you are relaxed
    • this is reassuring
    • shakespeare nice, girl likes to see other monkeys play, girl will like pretty sounds, shakespeare usses iambic pentamiter, alliteration, rhyming
    • this is why monkeys like these are pretty sounds monkeys think
    • thats why traditional

    my friend
    • and why your argument is solid.
    • i concede.
  • me
    • if too much like old monkeys ways boy and girl can mock, these new monkeys very smart monkeys, innovation good, also type of play
    • boy can mock the process of giving flower to girl, is funny for girl, but she still has flower, she has flower and boy who is aware of social norms
    • clever boy monkey knows about monkey behaviour, security, intelligence, also nice flower
    • and so on and so forth
    • be instinctive, this is the oldest dance in the world

Soo... he goes on to talk about how he thinks he's an odd monkey and people like him for that and i say he's an excellent monkey  who has compassion and soul and maybe this isn't the best advice and maybe i was blunt with it but we'd been talking about it all last night and i think the bit with the monkeys is kind of funny so there you go.
